For over 20 years the International Youth and Camp School Center has provided a  wide range of activities for youth and school children throughout the year.

Surrounding nature and the nearby Syöte National Park play a central  role in our activity program . Magical snow in wintertime allows us to practice a full selection of winter sports, from downhill skiing to snowshoeing and cross country skiing. You can even make art from snow ,build your own snow cave and try ice fishing.

Spring ,summer and autumn are also a perfect time for exploring nature. During these seasons our  activity program  includes; canoeing, hiking, learning about nature  and wilderness living skills.

Working with our instructors you can build your own unique activities program which perfectly meets the goals for your camp.

You will learn how to cross country ski. We start with the  basics on level tracks near the top of Pikku-Syöte. We use games and drills to help build skills and confidence and make sure you have fun whilst you learn. Next session, you can start from the  downhill station which gives access to longer trails. Third session, you might want to go for a short trip, perhaps combining it with lunch outdoors. Sessions can be modified for each group.

During  wintertime all our 9 slopes offer safe skiing experience for all. Our slopes start just 100 meters from the youth center. You might be just learning how to downhill ski or snowboard, or you might already be an experienced skier. We have slopes for all!

Feel the real atmosphere of Northern winter! With our guide you will explore the silent and pure white forest.You will get your own set of snowshoes to use  and learn the basic techniques of snow travel .  One of the most spectacular snowshoeing route starts  right  next to our hotel.

Learn about the different qualities of snow and the techniques for snow sculpting. After this you can make your own snow sculptures.While we wait for the snow to re-freeze, we test our toboggan slopes!

You learn how to catch fish during winter time. We walk on the ice and drill a hole through it. Let’s hope we catch some fish! This activity is easy to combine with an outdoor lunch (sausages, sandwiches, hot drinks and so on). You need a transfer to get to the lake.

On top of Pikku-Syöte fell you are able to explore our Magic Forest, where snowy trees are illuminated  by lights. Usually you need snowshoes to get there.  The Magic forest is always open, so you can visit it as a self led group, but for our visiting groups from abroad we recommend having a guide. Magic forest is best after the sunset and makes a perfect evening activity.

Come and meet the husky dogs in their own home. It is a good opportunity to learn about the life of arctic huskies and their  daily care and  routines. You will get to meet the dogs and hear about their characters and adventures. During your  visit you will be served coffee,or juice, with a sweet Finnish bun.

Syöte visitor center is the gateway to Syöte National Park. The National park´s wild wooded hills provide an ideal setting for many activities whatever the season .The visitor center provides  useful information about the  natural and human history of the   local area and wildlife. The visitor center offers guided indoor tours for youth groups which are a great opportunity to  learn all about the local environment and finnish nature. You need a transfer to get to the visitor center.

Learn wilderness skills in fabulous fell scenery. You will learn the basics of camping, how to get around in nature, what equipment you need and be taught about  local  animals and plant life.The skills are learned in the real environment. This activity can be arranged throughout the four seasons.

Specialty in wintertime: snow cave( Quinzee) construction. We build our own snow cave, which you can climb  inside and shelter from the elements, This activity lasts half a day.

Specialty in summertime: self-made raft. We make a raft and test it on a local pond . Duration 2,5 hours.

You are able to experience  the nature and scenery during a guided  hiking trip . On your journey  your guide will teach you about nature and the history of the Syöte area . There are many routes to choose from, some of them require transport. Other hiking trips can be started from the main door of the hotel.

Let out your inner artist. We might be printing a t-shirt, felting or making your own lip balm. Lips balms are made of nature products and everyone can choose the flavor of the balm from the Finnish nature.

Our own indoor climbing wall is 7,5 meters high and has a variety of climbing routes. All our guides have been  fully  trained as indoor climbing instructors.  This activity provides the opportunity to meet a challenge and build strength and flexibility.It is one of the most popular camp school activities .

Group size: maximum 16 person with one guide, 25 with two guides

Archery is  suitable  for everybody . First we learn all about safety and technique, then we will start the game! Archery increases your muscle strength, focus and helps improve your posture.

Playful tasks where you also need to use your brain and do some physical exercise. Tasks are solved as a team, so you need to develop positive interaction skills and effective communication.

Crate climbing is an exciting activity which  involves building a tower using  crates, with climbers remaining standing on the uppermost crate as the tower gets taller. The aim is to build as high as you can until your tower topples, or the climber fall off !(Don’t worry – you are harnessed in!).

Syöte area is a great place for fat  biking. There are over 100 km of marked routes. First you learn some technique and basic moves . You choose the route with your guide and together  decide how much challenge you want. Our bikes are fat bikes and suitable for 15 year old plus.

Open Canoeing is the perfect way to explore the peaceful lakes of the Syöte region.Your guide will ensure that you are safe and well cared for .This activity is also suitable for those with no previous paddling experience. You need a transfer to get to the lake.

Some of the children from Syöte village and the surrounding area go to school in Pikku-Syöte school, which is situated in the same building as the hotel. Maybe their classroom  has the best school view in Finland!

Arts lesson

Experience arts lesson with the Finnish school students (age 6-12). During the lesson you will practise handicrafts, paint, draw, or otherwise create art with the Finnish pupils.In the course of your visit you will have the chance to experience everyday life in a Finnish school and interact with the students. During your visit  you will also have  a short presentation all about the  school and get the  chance to ask questions.

Sports lesson

Sports lesson with Finnish school kids (age 6-12) either inside in the sports hall or outside. You will expereince  what Finnish school sports lesson  are like.During your  visit you will have the chance to experience everyday life in a Finnish school and interact with the students. In the course of  your visit you will also have a short presentation all about the school and get the chance to ask questions.

Mathematics lesson

Action-based mathematics teaching with Finnish school kids (age 6-12). You will get an introduction to a Finnish mathematics lesson and learn mathematics with our school pupils. While your visit you will see what the local Finnish school looks like, you will hear a short presentation  about the school and feel what it is like to be a student in a Finnish school.

Forest school

Learning by experiencing in the Finnish forest with the local schoolchildren in Syöte. Action-based learning in mathematics, environmental sciences, history, English or Finnish in the nature close to the school. In addition, we play some traditional games in the beautiful scenery. While your visit you will see what the local Finnish school looks like, you will hear a short presentation about the school and feel what it is  like to be a student in a Finnish school.
